During the course of a lifetime, it is not rare for us to suffer from events or situations that happened to us a long time ago.
When it is the case, feelings then fluctuate between rage, sadness, shame, guilt or even anger. We would like to believe that we deserve to be self-confident… but we realize that it is not easy at all. The dream of experiencing harmony with oneself and others seems to have since been broken. I notice in my practice of hypnosis or EMDR that generally, even if we think we are not at all responsible for what happened to us, we have a hard time letting go of our negative self-image. It is as if we were somehow convinced that we were unworthy or not worthy enough.
As a result, not only do we see ourselves as victims, but we have been dragging around a negativity like a ball and chain whose purpose we do not truly understand.
Whether it’s a question of having:
- Experienced sexual abuse or other,
- Been under the control of malicious individuals
- Been subjected to negative and repeated comments from a loved one
- Had a car accident,
- Survived an attack
All of these traumas often have painful and lasting effects. No matter how much you think that time heals all wounds, you sometimes come to realize that it is not the case. Years later, the pain is still as sharp… or your self-image is still as negative.
Brief therapies such as hypnosis, NVC or EMDR can help metabolize traumatic memories. Events are not forgotten, but they can become old memories. They then transform or turn into old scars. They are no longer painful but they do act as a witness of the past. As a result, one feels joy and even pride in having overcome these difficulties.
